My contract for the 3gs is around $60 a month for unlimited Internet, text but 750 min,I paid $353 for the phone 32gb with contract.

Yes, you can do that but its a lot more complicated than just buying the phone and putting the sim card in. You have to buy the iPhone and you have to buy an AT&T (or whatever is the legal provider) contract with it. You can keep your number but they will issue you a new sim card. Same number. But different sim card. This is called the locked phone. BUT if you dont want to buy a contract and dont wanna use AT&T then Apple lets you buy an unlocked phone but its way more expensive

(continuation) the factory unlocked version basically lets you forces you to pay almost the same price as the phone with a contract. Its like paying for carrier freedom. Also, the black market sells it at pretty much the same price because there are only 2 ways to buy the phone and those are both expensive. So technically, you can buy the 3GS , jailbreak it then put your own simcard

no it doesnt. thats what it advertises. you pay $199 for the 16GB unit with a contract and the contract locks you for 2 years. you can buy a phone w/o a contract but its much more expensive the 16GB model goes for about $650 – $750 the 32GB goes for $800-$950. Good luck in getting one.
